I couldn’t believe it. Just as I was getting set to close up the MBP and head up-stairs to bed I decided (as I frequently do) to hit the StumbleUpon button. I was greeted by a long load time and a tripod page. And, a background MIDI. I sat there in shock for a few seconds before mashing my fingers into the CMD-Q keys. I thought those things went the way of the dodo. Just thought I’d share that little tid-bit.

So I have pictures from the poker party. It went pretty well and I’ll get to the pictures when I can. It’s hard to get to it when I have the boy. He’s like my anti-muse, I can barely write or design with the kiddo around. I’ll cover all this more in a major post when I settle on the details. I’m going to be separating my blog between personal and more traditional news. I’ll simply be splitting my personal blog to a sub-domain, this blog will become the more traditional news blog. It’ll all be supplemented by my tumblog. And, I’m designing and will be hosting a blog for a friend. Max’s as yet untitled blog will be on-line by Friday.

This is a pretty kewl little program. Aside from being able to act as a day to day journal and note taking application Journaler also seems to be a pretty decent desktop blogging app. And, it’s free which is always a plus. I want to publish this as an aside, just to see how it works out.

I’ve got a table, a keg and chips… whoops forgot those. Gotta call Luke, hang on. Done. We’ve got a poker table-top and chairs… dammit. Hang on.
Anyway, we’re hosting a poker party at the house. There are a couple goals tonight:
I’m definitely going to bust the Kodak out tonight, so I’ll have an excuse to use the javascript free in post gallery I’ve been eying. Check back sometime tomorrow for pics.
Hey, this is also my first civilian party in almost seven years. Maybe someone will bring weed. God, I hope so. More to come soon.

I’m back in the saddle again… (/end cheesy Aerosmith voice)
Yes kiddies I’ve come home to mommy. I was having a crisis of template. I have a spectacularly one track mind and for the last week and a few days my mind has been abnormally preoccupied with how this blog looks. Vanity, thy name is Theme. Anyway, as you can see there’s some new theme love up.
Before people start flaming me, I know how much the header resembles Subtraction.com. I got permission from the author to use the design style. Actually, I didn’t initially intend to copy his style. I wanted to incorporate a style from a tutorial about wide-tabbed navigation by Derek Punsalan into his October Special theme. When all was said and done, I realized just how close it was to Subtraction.com, so I contacted the author to make sure the design was okay with him. It was, so now here it is.
Anyway, now that I can stand the way everything around here works you can consider me back on the blogging horse.
Also, if you want to see some other stuff that I think is cool you should check out my new Tumblog HERE

Long story short: If you downloaded WordPress 2.1.1 within the past 3-4 days, your files may include a security exploit that was added by a cracker, and you should upgrade all of your files to 2.1.2 immediately.
Just in case someone out there uses WP and maybe turned off the RSS feeds in the admin panel. The upgrade was painless, there wasn’t even an update dialog when you login to the panel, looks like it was just an overwrite. Again the the upgrade is HERE.

I know, I know. but I had to. For some reason I wasn’t digging the October Special theme. I thought I’d try to come on back to K2 and see how that goes. What we have here is some single column goodness. K2 uses alot of .png images so some of the graphics are going to look crappy in IE6. Even though just about everyone in the world should be on IE7 or any other browser that supports .png I know that there are some people out there who are still on IE6. For those people, I’m working on making the theme compatible. Shouldn’t be too long now.
Also, I’m doing some tweaking. I know I should do all this on MAMP (off-line) but I’m too excited.
Edit: I removed the .png’s from around the outside of the main content area and replaced them with .gif’s that any browser can read. I’ll replace the rest of the icons with .gif’s as soon as I feel motivated enough to actually do that… could be a while. I also noticed that the margins were’nt rendering correctly in IE6. I fixed the posts at least, but the footer is still a little jacked up. I may or may not try to fix that. Most of my readers are using compatible browsers, and the ones who don’t can still read everything, it’s just not as pretty.
For now though, everyone should point whatever crappy browser they’re using at either FireFox or Flock to get some new browser love.

So I got sucked in by marketing recently. I was standing in the appliance section of the local Best Buy a few days ago while my wife was considering her vacuum future. (I convinced her to go with the uber-expensive Dyson, but it was so worth it.) Normally, I can drown out the commercials they play all day over the sound system, but when the words unlimited and download fly into my ears I listen up.
So the offer I heard in the store and then saw on their website was $14.99 for unlimited downloads off their library of over 3 million songs. Sounds like a good deal. It almost sounds too good to be true. Of course, it wasn’t, which makes it easy to really build up the expectations.
I’m a fan of Best Buy, they’ve never done me wrong. But, I do know plenty of people who actually buy into their sales pitches and that annoying Geek Squad thing and get burned. So I have no trouble assuming that Best Buy is one of those shady corporate giants like Wal-Mart. So the shadiest thing about this whole deal is the fact that Best Buy hooked up with Real to put this thing together. The Real Audio people are like the devil and their products should be avoided at all costs.

So here’s the thing: All my hard drives, iPods and such are all NTFS. Unfortunately, but not at all surprisingly, that format doesn’t play nice with the Mac. At least, I couldn’t figure out a way. So I’ve had to re-partition my USB external, and I’ve had to reformat my iPod so it can take updates. What’s the big deal? iTunes has managed to hang up twice now. I wish they made a lighter version of iTunes, I’m getting really tired of this kinda crap.
This is a couple (12) shots I took on my Kodak while I was very, very drunk. I’m not much of a photographer to begin with, but the keg of beer and the poker game in my garage didn’t help much.
I told Bobby I’d have these pictures for him in a few days. […]
I took this shot as a response to a post on 9rules. The Flickr page has notes as to what all the little goodies are. I must admit, I am very proud of this setup.
This is basically a test post for me. I just want to ensure that psoting from Flickr is a snap (as it always has been before) with this new layout.
Anyway, this picture is from the Flickr Blog, which as far as I can tell is one of the most vastly unappreciated blogs out there.
Aside […]
